Climate
Tropical ocean monsoon climate with average annual temperatures 25,4°C affects the weather in Sanya. There is an annual rainfall of 1278 mm. The highest average temperature in July is 28,3°С and the lowest is 20,3°С in January. The highest mentioned temperature in Sanya is 35,7°C. The winter is very comfortable, without snow and frost.
Sanya is famous for its fresh air and sunny days. Flowers bloom all year round. Sanya boasted “Eastern Hawaii“. Rainfall in Sanya is lower than in other areas of Hainan Island. 1/3 of the annual rainfall falls on typhoons. Such concentration of precipitation is a feature of the weather in Sanya, caused by 300 days of sunshine a year.
Sanya University
Sanya University (SU) was founded in 2005 in Sanya city, Hainan province. The first name was Sanya College. Geely Holding Group’s top 500 businesses were founding this university. It is the oldest and hugest college in Sanya. Also, the fastest growing and most competitive private university in China. In 2016 national government of Hainan province and Sanya Municipal Governmnet signed a contract to establish Sanya University based on Sanya College.
With a total investment of 3 billion yuan ($ 469.2 million), SU covers an area of 200 hectares and a total construction area of about 500,000 square meters. There are 16 colleges and 68 specialities of bachelor’s degree. Economics, management, jurisprudence, literature, education, art, engineering, science and agriculture among them. It has modern teaching and living facilities such as an Academic Exchange Center, an Art Center, an Experimental Center, a Computer Center, a standard pool and a golf course. It also has 2 high-tech libraries with over 2 million books.
The university has organized special courses, such as golf and cruise management, and international tourism development services in Hainan. It has also created educational programs for hospitality management and the tourism and cultural industries to produce high quality and practical talent.
Hainan Tropical Ocean University
Hainan Tropical Ocean University (HTOU) is a full-time government university. The People’s Government of Hainan Province, China National Offshore Petroleum Corporation, State Oceanic Administration of China and Sanya Municipal People’s Government jointly built this university.
The university has status as “China-ASEAN Education and Training Center” and one of ten “Education Assistance Centers” of the Chinese Ministry of Education. State Council Graduate Committee and Member of the University of Shanghai Cooperation Organization University. It serves as the cradle of talent cultivation for the minority region of central Hainan. Functions as a centre for innovation, social services, cultural heritage and international cooperation and exchange.
Its predecessors were the Hainan Li and Miao Ordinary School, established in 1954 by Guangdong Province, and the Hainan Li and Miao College of Education in 1958. After several mergers, splits, adjustments and name changes Qiongzhou College appeared. In 2006 it became known as Qionzhou University after years of construction and development. Hainan Ordinary National School merged with Qiongzhou University in April 2006. In 2009 main campus moved from Wujishan to Sanya. In September 2015, it became known as Hainan Tropical Ocean University.
