ABOUT SHANGHAI
Population: about 25 million.
Shanghai (kit. UPR. , Pinyin: shànghǎi; y [zãhe]) is the most populated city in China and in the world.
Shanghai occupies the Yangtze River Delta in the east part of China. The city is a vital commercial center of China. Moreover, it is the biggest seaport in the world.
Shanghai is the financial and trade center of China. Market reforms in Shanghai began in 1992-a decade later than in the southern provinces. Prior to that, a large part of the revenues of the city have gone to Beijing. Even after reducing the tax burden, financial revenues from Shanghai accounted for 20-25% of China’s total budget (before the 1990s, this figure was about 70%). Today the city is the largest and most developed center of the continental part of China.
In Shanghai, four seasons-a short but relatively cold winter (it should be borne in mind that Shanghai is almost on the 30th parallel, that is, at the latitude of North Africa or the South of the United States-at these latitudes is almost no winter), short and fast spring, long and hot summer and quite a long autumn, which lasts, conditionally, until December. Unlike many other major cities in China, the streets are clean and the air quality is superior to most other cities.
